Told through the eyes of an ant (named XYZ) walking through the rainforest, the book contains colorful illustrations in addition to short explanatory text about the lifestyle and habitat of numerous rainforest animals and plants.

The book was the first written by Pratt, a now well-respected author. She was just 15 at the time when she drew the pictures and wrote the text, which was for a 9th grade English homework assignment. The book has since gone on to win critical acclaim while selling over 130,000 copies.

“Environmental awareness, at a very early age, is the key to preserving our world,” Pratt says. “When young children gain a knowledge and respect for nature they in turn love and protect it. If this book takes one small step towards that end it will have served its purpose.”
